El pasado 18 de junio, el Parlamento Europeo vivió un debate encendido por la prohibición del Orgullo LGTBIQA+ en Hungría, a manos del Gobierno de Viktor Orbán, que invocó una nueva ley de “protección infantil” para vetar cualquier acto de visibilidad queer.
Eurodiputados de la centro‑izquierda pidieron acciones contundentes, señalando que se había cruzado “otra línea roja” al atacar la libertad de expresión y reunión pacífica. En cambio, la extrema derecha defendió esta medida como responsabilidad nacional. Iratxe García, líder socialista, fue especialmente clara al calificarlo como un ataque autoritario y cobarde contra parte de la ciudadanía europea.
La Comisión Europea anunció que ya ha llevado este caso al Tribunal de Justicia de la UE y no descarta nuevas sanciones, incluyendo la posible suspensión del voto de Hungría bajo el Artículo 7.
Por su parte, el alcalde de Budapest, Gergely Karácsony, desafiando a la prohibición oficial, quiere impulsar el Orgullo como “Festival de la Libertad” el 28 de junio, bajo organización municipal, sin camiones ni expresiones explícitas, para evitar el veto policial.
